The Hasslers Duo consists of Singer/Songwriter Matt Hassler and multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Owen Thayer. Hassler and Thayer made their mark in the Missoula music scene with Americana group the Hasslers, and while they are now based in Seattle, they stay true to their roots, playing MT festivals like Red Ants Pants Festivals and Whitefish Trail Hootenanny, and continually writing and recording music inspired by an agricultural upbringing in Central and Western Montana.
“(The Hasslers are) An impressively smooth fusion of country, indie-pop and folk; they’re so adept at handling the genre mashing that it’s hard to pick out exactly where one stops and the other starts.
Even though the songwriting and instrumentals are brilliant, Matt Hassler’s vocal performances are even more stellar. He has the sort of lithe, evocative voice that can sell any line, whether it’s a wisecrack, a confession, or an observation. By the end of the album, I felt like I was friends with him- both through his lyrical candor and his precise, careful delivery, he worked his way into my heart. It’s a remarkable album-long performance that should not go overlooked; rarely are artists able to capture this level of quality over a whole album.” -Stephen Carradini, Independent Clauses

The Hasslers, local Missoula folk-rock troubadours, have been spending the last year in the Pacific Northwest, getting their feet wet in the big city music scene, playing venues weekly in Seattle and Portland, and most importantly, recording their full-length album, State Center.
This new 12 song LP documents their move, both musically and lyrically, through homesick blues songs, lovelorn country songs, and a new turn into roots-rock with horn arrangements, funky guitar licks, and wailing organ riffs.
Stay tuned for the release date and release party dates and venues!
We'll be announcing a slew of winter shows in a few days, but for now, we're thrilled to be headlining at our favorite Seattle Venue, the Tractor Tavern on November 24th. Go check out the details on our Shows page!
We're heading back to Montana next weekend! Shows in Missoula are at Draught Works on July 1 and The Real Lounge on July 2. Then we're playing at Craggy in the 'Fish on July 3. See ya'll soon!
